Only a few major online stores let you pay by eCheck directly. The most reliable are Amazon, Walmart, Etsy, and Costco Business Delivery — each accepts a bank-account (ACH) payment at checkout with no PayPal required. Two more, B&H Photo Video and Appliances Connection, take bank payments by phone. The verified list is below.

Which online stores take eChecks without PayPal?

All four direct-checkout stores above work with zero PayPal involvement. Amazon calls it "Add a checking account" (routing and account number). Walmart calls it "Pay by Bank" — you link your bank once through its verification partner, then pay from checking. Etsy offers a bank-account option at checkout through Stripe Link. Costco Business Delivery has a named ACH/E-Check option at checkout.

Most other big retailers do not accept eChecks. eBay, Newegg, Zappos, and Nordstrom take cards, digital wallets, and sometimes PayPal or buy-now-pay-later instead — and Blue Nile and eBay explicitly refuse ACH and paper checks. If the store you want isn't on this list, you have two common workarounds: fund a payment from your bank account through PayPal (PayPal's version of an eCheck), or use your bank's online bill-pay to send an ACH payment where the merchant accepts one.

Can you buy groceries online with an eCheck?

Yes, two ways: Walmart grocery orders take the same Pay by Bank option, and Amazon Fresh orders can be paid from a linked checking account (bank payment doesn't work for gift cards, Prime, digital items, or Subscribe & Save). Kroger, Instacart, and Target do not take routing-and-account payments at checkout — Kroger's and Target's debit offers are separate card products you sign up for, and Instacart accepts only cards, wallets, and EBT.

To pay by eCheck at the stores below, choose "bank account" or "pay by check" at the payment step and enter your routing and account numbers. The payment clears in a few days, not instantly — see how long an eCheck takes to clear. New to eChecks? Start with our plain-English eCheck guide.

Frequently asked questions

Which online stores accept eChecks?

Amazon, Walmart, Etsy, and Costco Business Delivery accept a bank-account (ACH) payment at checkout. B&H Photo Video and Appliances Connection take bank payments by phone. Most other large retailers do not offer eCheck.

Does Amazon accept eChecks?

Yes — US customers can add a checking account (routing and account number) and pay by ACH on eligible orders. Bank payment doesn't work for gift cards, Prime subscriptions, digital items, or Subscribe & Save.

Can I pay by eCheck without PayPal?

Yes, at Amazon, Walmart, Etsy, and Costco Business Delivery, which take bank/ACH payments directly. At many other stores, the only electronic-check option is funding a PayPal payment from your bank account.

Can I pay for groceries online with an eCheck?

Yes at Walmart and Amazon Fresh — both let you pay grocery orders from a linked bank account. Kroger, Instacart, and Target do not take routing-and-account payments at checkout; their debit offers are separate card products.

Why don't more online stores accept eChecks?

eChecks clear slower than cards (about 3–5 business days) and can be returned for insufficient funds, so many retailers only take cards, digital wallets, and buy-now-pay-later. Some, such as Blue Nile and eBay, explicitly do not accept ACH or checks.

How do I pay by eCheck at checkout?

Choose "bank account" or "pay by check" at the payment step, then enter your bank routing number and account number. The store debits your account over the ACH network, so it clears in a few business days.
